Hwa Chong Institution (HCI) Launches Art Elective Programme (AEP) as a New DSA Talent Area for 2026
Hwa Chong Institution (HCI) has announced an exciting update for aspiring young artists: starting with the 2025 Direct School Admission (DSA) exercise, the Art Elective Programme (AEP) will be offered as a new talent area for students seeking admission into HCI’s high school section in 2026. This marks a significant expansion of HCI’s commitment to nurturing diverse talents and provides a dedicated pathway for students passionate about the visual arts.
What is the Art Elective Programme (AEP) at HCI?
The AEP at HCI is designed for students who demonstrate a strong passion and potential in the visual arts. Those admitted through this talent area will embark on a rigorous and enriching curriculum that aims to stretch their artistic and creative abilities. The programme deepens students’ understanding of visual culture and contemporary art practices, offering opportunities to explore a wide range of artistic media, techniques, and creative processes-from traditional drawing and painting to digital and mixed-media art.
Who Should Apply?
HCI welcomes applications from students who:
- Show a genuine passion for visual arts and creative expression, supported by fundamental technical skills and aesthetic sensitivity.
- Are eager to experiment with diverse artistic media and techniques, including both traditional and contemporary forms.

DSA Application Process and Timeline
The DSA-Sec application window is open from May 7, 2025, 11am to June 3, 2025, 3pm.
- Applications are submitted via the MOE DSA-Sec Portal and are free of charge.
- Shortlisted candidates will be notified between July 17 and July 21, 2025, and will be invited to attend an in-person interview and/or selection tests on July 26, 2025.
- Final outcomes will be released between August 25 and September 4, 2025.
